Intense Pulsed Light (IPL)
Overview
Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) is a type of cosmetic treatment that uses a device to deliver high-intensity pulses of light to the skin. IPL treatments are often used to improve the appearance of the skin by reducing the appearance of sun damage, age spots, freckles, and uneven skin tone. They can also be used for permanent hair reduction, spider veins/telangiectasias, treating symptoms of rosacea, to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, and to stimulate the production of collagen and elastin, which can help to improve the overall texture and tone of the skin.
The treatment involves the use of a handheld device that emits pulses of light energy onto the skin. The light energy is absorbed by the skin and absorbed by specific target cells, such as melanin (the pigment that gives skin its color) or blood vessels. The heat generated by the light energy damages or destroys the targeted cells, which can help to improve the appearance of the skin.
